We apply an unconventional,
research-driven
and holistic approach
to center women.
Unconform exists to make designing with & for women mainstream.
Fitness apps that fail to mention menstruation. Reproductive health solutions that place the burden of responsibility entirely on women. Default female voices for voice assistants while voice recognition tech understand women up to 70% less than men.
Women’s challenges shouldn’t be secondary concerns. And women’s problems shouldn’t be only women’s concerns. For too long, conventional design and research methods have fallen short, leaving half of the world grossly underserved or overburdened.
But no longer. It’s time to challenge conventional design approaches that still have us designing for women as an afterthought.
Informed
over blank slate
Conventional design believes that fresh eyes and “beginner’s mindset” opens up more possibilities and more creative solutions. Not only can this lead to inefficient “wheel-spinning,” it can overlook crucial needs of women. The research is already there. At Unconform, we get a head start on how society is failing women by building on foundational evidence, trends and expert practitioner wisdom.
Nuanced
over binary
Traditional approaches present the work of designing for women as black-and-white or linear. But one step forward is not always progress. Deconstructing gender inequities is non-linear, multi-dimensional, and nuanced. Our approach unveils the complex realities of this work, so that we can have smarter conversations and build our solutions based on deeper insights.
Integrated
over siloed
Designing women-only solutions often ends up putting undue burden on women to solve problems on their own. At Unconform, we teach holistic approaches and build integrated solutions to create a world where women’s issues are everyone’s issues.
We are a women-owned, women-led collective of designers, strategists, and researchers committed to designing with and for women.
MANSI GUPTA
Having led several behavioural, research and design projects in social impact with a gender lens, Mansi founded Unconform after observing the many ways in which design overlooks women.
Our collective of impact practitioners brings global perspectives, diverse lived experiences and expertise in various fields to help us see and close gender gaps all around.

Across the globe, in finance, health, tech and more, women represent a massive, untapped opportunity for us to make real impact.
We work with organisations who understand that our conventional approach is not working—and are ready to level up their research, design, and strategy of products and services to deliver true impact for women.
__Acknowledging our blindspots
Women are far from a monolith. As much as possible, our approach centers diverse lived experiences. And, our commitment is to continue expanding the spectrum of voices we engage with to shape our approach.
__Embracing complexity
Our collective of impact practitioners helps us apply a systemic lens to ensure we are able to impact gender inequities in fields where it may not be easily apparent.
__Being radically transparency
Although research shows that designing for women designs better for “everyone,” we are well aware of the consequences of misleading language. Our choice to use the word women (over gender or inclusive) is informed by the current focus of our work.
__Staying grounded
Designing with, and for women means understanding the consequences of solving for the short-term, while continuing to believe in the long-term vision. We stay grounded in both, women’s current realities and the equitable world we deserve.
__Driving overall inclusion
While our primary focus is on women, we've observed that our insights have broader applications. We hope to support the development of approaches that center other minoritised groups.
__Making it safe, fun and imaginative
This work can feel hard. But, it doesn’t have to. We strive to bring fun, playfulness and imagination to everything we do, while ensuring that all voices feel invited and safe to participate.
